Government officials, diplomats, financial institutions, investors and private sector leaders are expected to convene in Kampala for the China Trade Forum 2026, a high-level engagement aimed at strengthening Uganda-China trade relations and unlocking new opportunities in investment, manufacturing, infrastructure, agribusiness, technology transfer and export development.
The forum comes at a time when trade between Uganda and China continues to expand, with both countries seeking to deepen commercial partnerships that support industrialisation, value addition and economic transformation.
Organisers said the forum will provide a strategic platform for dialogue between Ugandan businesses and Chinese investors, while also facilitating partnerships that can increase access to finance, improve market linkages and enhance the competitiveness of local enterprises.
Speaking ahead of the event, Tunde Thorpe, the Executive Head Business Commercial Banking at Stanbic Bank noted that Uganda’s growing production capacity and regional market access position the country as an attractive destination for Chinese investment.
“The China Trade Forum 2026 is designed to move beyond discussion and create practical business connections that will stimulate trade, investment and sustainable economic growth,” Tunde said.
The forum will feature panel discussions, business-to-business meetings, investment showcases and policy dialogues focused on key sectors including manufacturing, agriculture, logistics, energy, digital innovation and infrastructure.
Financial institutions are expected to play a central role in the discussions, particularly on trade finance, investment facilitation and supporting Ugandan enterprises to participate in international value chains.
Government representatives will outline Uganda’s trade and investment priorities, while Chinese business leaders will explore opportunities for joint ventures, industrial development and technology partnerships.
Private sector participants are expected to engage directly with potential investors and buyers, with the aim of expanding exports, attracting capital and promoting knowledge exchange.
Analysts say stronger Uganda-China commercial cooperation could contribute significantly to job creation, industrial development and export diversification, particularly if local businesses are supported to increase production and meet international market standards.
The China Trade Forum 2026 is expected to attract a broad range of stakeholders from the public and private sectors, reinforcing efforts to deepen bilateral economic cooperation and position Uganda as a competitive trade and investment destination in the region.
