Ugandan businessman Sudhir Ruparelia has received a dividend payout of UGX2.251 billion from Bank of Baroda Uganda (BOBU), reinforcing the value of his long-term investment in one of the country’s listed commercial banks.
The dividend, for the financial year ended December 31, 2025, was presented to Ruparelia following the bank’s declaration of a UGX6 dividend per share, approved by shareholders after the lender posted strong financial results for the year.
Ruparelia, the bank’s largest individual shareholder, owns 375.16 million shares, representing a 2.5% stake in Bank of Baroda Uganda. Based on Monday’s closing share price of UGX63, his investment is valued at approximately UGX23.64 billion.
The payout underscores the wealth-generating potential of dividend-paying stocks on the Uganda Securities Exchange, where Bank of Baroda has built a reputation for consistent shareholder returns.
The lender declared a final dividend of UGX6 per share, a 50% increase from the UGX4 per share paid for the previous financial year, reflecting improved earnings and a stronger financial position.
Bank of Baroda Uganda has remained one of the country’s strongest dividend-paying listed companies, supported by solid profitability and a healthy capital position. The bank’s annual results for the year ended December 31, 2025, showed continued growth in earnings, enabling the board to recommend the enhanced shareholder payout.
Ruparelia, chairman of the Ruparelia Group, has maintained his position as the bank’s largest individual investor for several years. His shareholding places him among the most prominent private investors on the Uganda Securities Exchange, where dividend income forms an important component of long-term investment returns.
The latest dividend payment comes as investor interest in Uganda’s listed banking stocks continues to grow, driven by improving corporate earnings and attractive cash returns to shareholders. Bank of Baroda’s increased dividend is expected to further strengthen its appeal to income-focused investors seeking stable returns from the local equity market.
