Uganda Airlines Unveils Growth Strategy to Expand Global Network and Cut Costs ENTEBBE — Uganda Airlines has outlined an ambitious strategy to expand its international footprint, launch domestic services and reduce operating costs as part of a long-term plan to strengthen the national carrier’s commercial performance.

The plans were presented by the airline’s executive leadership team during a meeting with the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe.

The delegation was led by Acting Chief Executive Officer Girma Wake and included Chief Finance Officer Allan Joel Kyeyune, Acting Manager for Human Resource and Administration Anne Apio, and Acting Chief Commercial Officer Shakila Lamar Rahim.

The briefing comes as Uganda Airlines implements structural reforms aimed at strengthening corporate governance, improving operational efficiency and positioning the airline for sustainable growth.

Among the key priorities outlined by management is the expansion of the airline’s international route network from Entebbe to destinations in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and major regional hubs across Africa. The airline also plans to introduce domestic flights to improve connectivity within Uganda and respond to growing local travel demand.

The leadership team said it is also pursuing initiatives to improve operational efficiency by bringing aircraft maintenance and ground handling services in-house. The move is expected to reduce operating costs, improve service reliability and build local technical expertise through the training of Ugandan aviation professionals.

Management noted that achieving these objectives will require continued collaboration with government and industry stakeholders to ensure the airline has the institutional support needed to execute its long-term strategy.

Gen. Kainerugaba welcomed the progress made by the airline’s leadership and reaffirmed his support for the national carrier, describing it as a strategic national asset with a critical role to play in driving trade, tourism and regional integration.

He said a strong national airline would contribute to Uganda’s broader economic development agenda by improving connectivity, facilitating commerce and enhancing the country’s competitiveness in regional and international markets.

Uganda Airlines has been pursuing a strategy focused on expanding its route network while improving operational efficiency as it seeks to strengthen its position in the increasingly competitive African aviation industry.
