The Government of Uganda has accepted bids worth UGX 1.88 trillion from investors in its latest Treasury Bond auction, reflecting sustained demand for government securities across different investment maturities.

Results released by the Bank of Uganda show that the October 28, 2026 auction attracted total bids worth UGX 2.99 trillion across the 2-year, 5-year, 15-year and 25-year Treasury Bonds.

Of the total bids received, the central bank accepted UGX 1.88 trillion, against a combined offer of UGX 1.4 trillion.

The 25-year Treasury Bond attracted the highest investor demand, with bids amounting to UGX 1.055 trillion against an offer of UGX 350 billion. The Bank of Uganda accepted UGX 932.97 billion, at a yield of 18.475 per cent.

The 15-year bond also registered strong demand, attracting UGX 899.62 billion in bids against an offer of UGX 450 billion. Accepted bids amounted to UGX 552.22 billion, with a yield of 17.925 per cent.

For the shorter-term securities, the 2-year bond attracted UGX 550.34 billion in bids against UGX 250 billion offered, with UGX 193.34 billion accepted at a yield of 16 per cent.

The 5-year bond received bids worth UGX 484.14 billion against an offer of UGX 350 billion. The central bank accepted UGX 202.35 billion at a yield of 16.8 per cent.

The results indicate stronger investor demand for longer-dated government securities, with the 25-year bond recording a bid-to-cover ratio of 1.131, while the 2-year bond registered the highest ratio at 2.846.

The bid-to-cover ratio measures the level of investor demand against the amount of securities offered, with higher ratios indicating stronger subscription interest.

The auction, conducted on Wednesday, October 28, had a settlement date of Thursday, October 29, 2026.

Treasury bonds are among the instruments through which the Government of Uganda borrows from the domestic market to finance its expenditure and manage public financing requirements. They also provide investors with an avenue to earn returns through lending to government over agreed investment periods.

The Bank of Uganda has scheduled the next Treasury Bond auction for Wednesday, November 25, 2026.
